Default And onto the fluids...

I just got done replacing the pitman arm, idler arm, and right front tie rods (inner and outer) and got my alignment. So now onto the fluids. I have been searching through the forum and making notes of what people are using. I like the idea of the Lucas Stabilizer. Although, I have never made the switch to synthetics, be it motor oil or anything else, and I am a little hesitant. So since I have a 4WD, what would the recommendations be for fluids? I have heard some people say it is bad to switch over to synthetics and some say go for it.

all depends. if you have any seal leaks they will increase with the synthetics, but if you fix them i will swear by there use. my 89 3.9 has been to hell and back over the past 7 years and it still runs, i use only syn. fluids and it has 270,000 km (160,000 miles roughly) and i still haul a slide in camper and fish the back woods. that reminds me i havn't changed the oil since june 2008.

Yea. According to my records, I switched to synthetic engine oil at 102,000 miles. I had no problems at all with the switch-over -- not burning oil, not leaking oil, nothing.
I'm also running synthetic in both differentials. No problems there, either. Switched at the same time. Truck currently has about 110,000 miles on it.
I haven't changed the oil in my truck since February 2008. Mileage wise, I'm almost due for a change.

In the olden days it was bad to switch to synthetics. But modern synthetics are great. You can switch it with no problem.
