I put the plug wires coil pack from my origional motor back on (which were good on the last motor) and new plugs and it seemed to run a bit better but stilll not quite right. I put some really heavy duty fuel system cleaner in the tank along with some sea foam(in case some moisture may have built up in the tank from sitting for over a month) and pulled out the air filter. I will run that through and see but it seems like the motor just dosent have any power.

I am going to check the timing this afternoon, but i am doubting that has anything to do with it anymore.

Anyone have any ideas?

So after doing some more digging, I find that the timing on a 95 5.2 cannot be adjusted. Got that off the ARRC in the FAQ section.

Heres the link: username: greatfalls password: publiclibrary
http://arrc.epnet.com/autoasp/framerq.asp

It says the timing is set at assembly and cannot be adjusted. I checked the timing, but it is set where I cant really see it all that well because the water pump is in the way. But it looks to me to be approximately 10 - 12* bdc. which seems right.

Thus eliminating my thinking its timing. So now im back to square 1 with a slightly rough running motor under 2000 rpm and what seems like a large lack of power.

Any thoughts?

If it were me I would double check all of my vacuum hoses.

Check fuel pressure.

Make sure all of the cylinders are firing and injectors are working.

When you say lack of power, when specifically? Accelerating? Every gear?

Actually, the more I am driving it (with the tank loaded up with fuel system treatments), the smoother is seems to be running. Plugged up injectors, maybe?

Other than checking spark and compression, how can you verify this?

I have not taken it on the hwy yet, but in town, it seems like it is ******* big time from a stop. when crusing in 2nd(auto trans) at say 35 mph and I get into the loud pedal, it shifts down to 1st but dosent seem to spool up like it should.

The tranny problem may just the the TV cable. It is adjustable. It is the cable that goes from the tranny to the Throttle body. The distributer can be off. The only way to time it correctly is make sure that #1 cly. is TDC on with the #1 spot on the dis. cap. If not it can be off to much that the computer can not adjust it properly. Also make sure you have the plug wires in the correct places. Also make sure they are not tangled up or crossing.

Not sure what tranny problem you are addressing.... and my tv is just fine.

Timing looks to be ok and while I had it out, I ran the light on all the wires (which I verified were all connected properly) and all seemed to be plusing well.

I ran compression on all the holes and found all 8 to be between 135 and 150. great in my opinion.

What I did find during my compression check, though, was 2 brand new plugs in holes 6 and 8. ie. not firing. explains why I felt lack of power... was only a v6 haha

got compression and spark in those holes, so fuel seems to be the only thing missing from the equation. I am going to go back to my old motor (which is at the junk yard now, UGH!!) and see if I can ferschnagal a couple injectors back.

Keep us posted on how it goes. I am curious to see if that fixes the problem.

Also I believe it was Crazy who told me you can clean the injectors with Q-tips or pipe cleaners and carb/choke cleaner.

Maybe I'll try cleaning them all first. I cant think of anything else that could be wrong if I have spark and compression in both holes.

Electrical side of the injection atleast seems to be registering as it tripped the check engine light when I disconnected the injectors while the truck was running.

Hopefully cleaning them will clear up the problem, or they are messed up internally, electrically speaking.

SUCCESS!!

Those 2 filters.... and the back half of the fuel rail was completely plugged with rusty corrosion. I bet I took atleast a tablespoon of crap out of it. cleaned out with a dental tool and carb cleaner. Lubed the injectors back up with some lithium grease and it runs like a champ! pulls as hard or harder than the old one.

I am super pumped about getting it back on its wheels! I was seruiusly debating taking it to the auction this weekend. But now that I know I have a strong running motor with great compression, new cooling system (from last winter), new block heater, no more leaks, and still only 72,000 miles.... I think its a good foundation to build on.

Thus the end of this thread and soon to open a build thread!

thanks for all the help and suggestions guys. couldn't have done it with out DF!
