Default Parking Brake Issues

I have a question about the parking brake. Ever since I bought the truck the parking brake has not worked. The rear cables were frozen. Since inspection time is coming again, I figured I'd fix the parking brake. I replaced the rear cables but now I can't reconnect the cable up front. I also replaced the adjusting screw because the old one was seized as well. Even if I totally remove the cable from the adjustment screw the cable appears about 2" - 2 1/2" short of being able to reconnect to the guide from the cable that goes to the pedal. I don't understand because all of these cables were connected while the rear cables were frozen and I matched up the rear cables for length. Is there a trick to reconnecting that I am missing? Perhaps I'm attaching the cable guide in the wrong spot? Completely frustrated. Of course the 90+ degree weather this weekend didn't help matters any. Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Did you try having someone release the pedal while you pull on front cable from underneath? If pedal is pushed down any the cable will be too short.

Yup, tried that about 10 mins into this ordeal.

I'm thinking I may just replace the rest of the cables. There are only two left, the intermediate and the front. It's like $30 for everything. Maybe one of the other cables is seized as well.
