89 Dakota project

Default 89 Dakota project

Hey guys so i didnt waist any time diggin into my 89 i just got Me and one of my buddys spent a few hours this weekend and a got the front end apart next is the cab then box... currently i am soaking those mounts!!

I will update with pics later tonight when i try and get the F cross member off.

My plan is this get it down to the frame, remove F & R ends and suspension. I am working on it outside my buddys shop so i am going to sand blast the frame, and Rhino line it. While working on that i want to change the gears in my rear end from 3.55 to 4.11 or so, and of course still try and find my 4x4 parts to go up front, then throw V8 coils in her with the body lift to start. And that should get me throught the summer? Plus while im planning that i am going to start fixing rust and get new fenders and paint.

Cool! Sounds like a good plan to start. Post up some pics. Even of it just torn apart.

Is this starting as a 2wd and becoming a 4wd? Just curious what you mean by coils... is this gonna be a sas? lol I only ask because stock, we got torsion-bars on the 4x4's and the 2x4s have coils up front.

I second the pictures... especially if its a conversion.

Well this truck is starting out as an 89 Doge dakota 3.9L TBI 2WD - blow tranny. First off i want to get it down to frame and do what i stated above with the coating the frame. I am aware of the torsion bars and plan on fabing i cross member for them, and i am still going to add the front diff from a 4x4 parts truck as well as suspension. On that note im probably going to keep it IFS and do a 4" body lift and V8 springs to add an inch or so to start. I also want to change to rear end from 3.55 to 4.11 or so. Now i would like to make a 390 stroker i have a 1990 318 TBI w/ ECM/ Harness im getting and a 94 jeep 5.2L magnum - harness/ECM which im getting a savlaged one. Plus i plan on pulling a 46RH tranny and rebuild it for the 89. Which engine do you think i should stroke and which should i rebuild and keep stock or close to and put in my 88 2WD that im not converting???
