Default Pea Sized Sludge

Well with the advice of some folks here (thank you again ) I decided to change all my gaskets including the head and I've got 21 years worth of sludge. I am going to take the heads to get cleaned and possibly shaved but what about the other components? The engine is filthy...there is sludge everywhere. Should I just go at it with some seafoam and a toothbrush or is there a better way?

Lot's of options. Like you can buy a parts washer tub. These are very handy to have. You can buy some engine degreaser or just kitchen degreaser. You can get carb cleaner. Or just use a garden hose dish soap and a wire brush.

This sludge is incredible. But the piston walls are nice and the piston heads are in great condition. Not bad for 187,000.

Do they use any thing special at the machine shop other than degreaser because the last head I took to them came out really well?

i made a redneck parts washer that i use on the engine stand. the make this nozzel thingy that you hook to an air hose and it has a hose you drop down in a liquid you want to pretty much pressure wash with it. i use desil fuel for this. gas or parts cleaner would work too i guess. and yes i catch it in a 55 gallon drum that i cut in half and layed over on its side incase any of you work or the epa or embrace trees.....
