The driveshaft is massive because it's aluminum and it's stock (at least for 5 speeds).
There should be 2 tabs on the rear of the axle tubes and then spots up on a frame crossmember where the shocks bolt in.

Yeah, the shocks won't look like your 2nd gen, cause they have one angled forward and one backward. Both the shocks on the 1st gens angle backwards. Here are some pics... they won't look like your shocks cause I have towing shocks with a coil helper spring and chrysler 9.25" rear axle with custom shock mount tabs. Also, how big is ya'll driveshaft, cause mine is steel but it isn't that big.

I'll try and get a pic tomorrow, it looks a little bigger than yours. It's a PITA to get U-joints for too, the yoke end is normal Chrysler internal clip style and driveshaft end uses external clips, not to mention the cap sizes are even something like .010" different. I went to Six States to get the joints and the Spicer book they have says the aluminum shaft was only used till 94, yet the original sticker dated april 95 was still on my driveshaft. Luckily the guys at Six states are really helpfull and crawled under my truck to verify what was going one.

Look at that... all pretty. It's even still got that white sticker on the axle!

Comparing my drive shaft to my friends Jeep 4.0L's, ours looks like a monster.

LOL! Yeah, that 9.25 inch rear axle was in absolutely mint condition when I got it, but now it's been hacked up from relocating the spring perches and shock tabs and the sticker is half covered in black paint from where I painted over the welds.
