'95 SLT 318 turns over, won't start.
Hi All, new to this and need your help. I drove my truck to work in the morning - everything normal. When I came out after work I tried to start it but it just cranked and would not start.
I read here on the forums about the ASD relay and checked that I had 12V to terminal 30 with ign off, power to 86 with ign. on, etc.,etc. That all showed as good.
Do I need to reset the Auto shut down? If so, how is it done on a '95?
I also swapped the starter relay which proved good(the engine DID crank) with the ASD relay but no luck.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Bob

Welcome welcome.
When you say turn over you mean the starter cranks over right? But the truck never actually starts right? If so I put my guess on the infamous splice under the power distribution center.
Also, check what 95_318SLT stated above, they are all kind of related in diagnosing the problem.

an easy way to tell if its a fuel or electrical\ignition problem is pour a little gas (or a little ol starting fluid) down the TB and see if shell start... I had a a problem with mine, turned out to be the ignition coil going south...
After some testing I found that the ignition was firing but no fuel pressure. Checked all the splices under the fuse box underhood and all were fine. Removed the bulkhead electric connector @ the firewall and all connections looked good. Methinks this is a grounding problem! Will check that next.
After testing everything I could think of I had the truck towed to a repair shop. They confirmed it was a bad fuel pump. $577 later my Dakota is on the road again.
Why in hell can't auto makers figure out how to place the fuel pump outside the tank?

They can. But then who would get your 577 dollars if not a repair shop?
At least your up and running again. Gotta feel good to be back on the road.
Sorry sksy ... but you don't get it.
I live in ALASKA. What if I'm 100+ miles offroad and this damned fuel pump fails with no warning?
THAT could be life-threatening! At least the old pumps gave you some warning of failure.

Wow dude, lay off him! There may not be any factory options, but go to a site like summitracing.com and buy a universal 22 gal fuel cell and external pump, hook them up and let it ride if your that worried about it.
