Unhappy 93 V6 Fuel pump prob

Hi all,

Glad I found this forum. Hope I can find some help with my problem. I have a 93 3.9L V6 fuel Injected LE. A while back it started acting up. Would drive like to the store and go in, when I came back out it would not start. Could get it to try if I gave it a spray of starter fluid but I did not have hardly any fuel pressure. If I let it sit for several hours or overnight it would start up fine again and I never did have any problems with it continuing to run after it started. Slowly the problem got worse until it just would not start at all. Dropped the tank and replaced the whole fuel pump assem 2 different times over about 1 month but never could get it to start working right again. Was getting power when I tested it.
Now I just heard that there is something in the distributer that can go bad and cause the pump not to work but it was one of those (I heard it from my friend who heard it from his boss who heard it from his pool clearner) type of things.
So, is there any truth in this and if not does anyone have a idea what I could try next.

welcome to the forum! the 93 has a different fuel system than mine, you have a return type and mine is returnless, so i have not really delt too much with it. i would pull the return line off and see if it is getting fuel back to the tank, if it is clogged for some reason it would not let it run. its worth a shot anyways.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, I did check the return line when I was changing the pump out and it was clear.

I had a very similar problem with a 91 landcruiser that turned out to be the distributor itself. Replaced it and never had an issue. Hopefully someone knows a better(cheaper) fix for you, but thats what worked in my case.

That was what I heard third hand on my rig too but not sure if it is true or not. Trying to find out as I sure would like to get her back on the road!

hmmmm, I was hopeing for some help with this. Nobody else have any ideas on if it could be a bad ditsy or what else it could be?

I agree with whats stated above, but it's worth checking the fuel filter too first to make sure its not clogged.

Thanks for the reply! But which do you agree with, the distributor replacement or the return valve being clogged?

doesnt the ASD splice under the power distribution center (PDC) affect fuel delivery? if so, take your PDC box out. underneath it you will notice a location where a bunch of wires are connecting to one. if you pull off the tape, you will notice that they are just spliced together. inspect it for heavy corrosion, and to eliminate this as the problem and maybe to just eliminate the problem for the future, just disconnect all the wires and clean them up with a baking soda and hot water mix. also be sure to disconnect the batter before you do any of this!

As stated above, check for the "bad splice" (located near the PDC -- that black box near the battery).
