click no start sometimes

Wow, I dunno for sure what all you guys have for engines/setups and what not. But I have the good old 318 and the HD tranny cooler, and I had the old starter out and new one in, in less than 30 minutes. I didnt have to do anything special like taking off covers, wheels etc. I just shimmied underneath and disconnected and unbolted the starter using an extension. I had no problems with clearances from nearby components.

i got the 3.9L v6, its a little crowded down there on mine. it doesnt help that i dont have an extension long enough, but im fixing that problem today, hopin to have my starter switched out by the end of the day. and its not the tranny cooler itself thats in the way, its the lines for it. the '91 didnt come with a tranny cooler, so the previous owner put one in cuz he used to tow alot, but my '93 has the built in cooler on the rad.

im curious, has anyone used power/air tools to get it off? i cant break the top nut on my own, so i was wondering if power tools will fit...?

Thanks for all the activity on this. I haven't gotten it done yet. Blower motor quit working on way to work, so I started checking out that can of worms. Vacation later this week, and hopefully back in town early enough I can spend a day on it before going back to work.

3.9193--I didn't have any problem breaking it loose. I was able to get a breaker bar with a 4 inch extension on it, and it broke loose with no problem. I just didn't have enough swing room to reposition the socket for another throw. And the head on my ratchet handle was too big to use--the starter itself was in the way.

i was able to get in there with my rachet with no extensions. but like i said before, couldnt break the nut loose. i have little to no tools (had more, but a friend used them, and well, im sure you guys know how that goes ) i have a friend with more power tools, but no breaker bars or anything fancy. i just towed it to the shop by my place, and my mechanic owed me one anyway, so i just got him to put in a remanufactered one for free. but after having to drive the '91 for a week and a half, im glad to have my '93 back, so from experience, just replace the starter. it fixed my issue.

Where I'm coming out from this is that I have air with an impact wrench. It literally takes me 1 minute to get the tire and inner fender well off. Once that is done, getting to the starter is a piece of cake without any kind of extension. I can have the starter out of my truck in 10 minutes flat... and thats including gathering the neccessary tools.

I can get it done in 3min. Thanks to my mopar high torque mini starter. That sucker gives me plenty of room to work around without messing with tires! Sorry I had to!

Lol!! I haven't had a reason to replace my starter yet, but when they time comes, don't worry, I'll be getting one of those those!!!!

My reason was that I was replacing my starter and other autozone junk every year or 2. So that is why I decided to get the best parts for several things. This one is 6 or 7 yrs old now. It was expensive though. $279 at summit. $75 at autozone for stock. I got mine at a Mopar Performance shop here in my city.
