Default dash replacement

Will a 93 dash fit in a 88? Someone asked about my parts truck and I have no idea.

Ya I'm sure it can. But mounting bolts location may be different. And the guages may not be interchangeable along with everything else.

Yes it will fit .In fact mine has the dash from a car in the late 80's .It's been so long I can't remember which one .The heater box is also the same one used in the cars .The tachs are not real tachs, so they work on v6 and v8 .The tach is driven by the computer not the ignition.

Not real tachs??? The tach is very real, and it's driven by the computer because the ignition system is driven by the computer. The computer holds the ground for the ignition coil until the crankshaft position sensor goes over the hole in the flexplate (or flywheel), then it ungrounds the ignition coil and allows it to be grounded to whichever spark plug is aligned with the distributor. The ignition timing in these trucks is soley controlled by the computer.

The ignition timing in these trucks is soley controlled by the computer, which is why the mp pcm requires 93 octane, cause it retards the timing to compress the gas more, but I digress.
so if the tach is driven by the computer, what does it mean when the tach doesnt sit at one number but the truck is idling fine? what i mean is, when idling, it will jump from 700, to 300 sit for a bit, and then jump back. its not like a violent jump, just every now and again.

Mine does the same thing, its just a bad ground, or intereference from something else. Mine will jump all over the place, and then drop to 0, and then start working again. I've just got better projects to work on rather than chase down the tach problem.
