Default Non dodge question....help please

Ok....So I bought a 95 Monte Carlo Z34 for cheap because it "died on me" while the guy was driving it. Heres what Ive done so far.

Replaced plugs and wires(old ones were destroyed(wires))

Car ran and drove great for about 20 minutes. Was test driving it and it died on me at a stoplight. I got it to start again(reluctantly) and it drove fine for another few miles, then sputtered and died. Car cranked and would almost catch and fire but not quite. Barely got it running but it was sputtering and just barely staying lit. Limped it a few blocks to my moms house and towed it home.

Checked tons of stuff today. Replaced the fuel filter. Fuel pump is audibly working when the key is turned. Car will sputter and almost start, or barely start and idle VERY low and then stall. Sometimes I can keep it running by feathering the pedal, and between feathers for 1 second or so it runs fine then dies down again.

Im thinking it has to be a fuel issue. I dont have a fuel pressure tester(wish I did) or an OBDI scanner to find any codes.

According to my readings if the fuel pressure regulator was bad it would drip fuel out the vacuum line attached to it after the motor stops. No fuel is present.

Im open to any ideas. I know this isnt this forums vehicle of choice, but thought maybe someone here would have a shot in the dark if nothing else.

It does sound like a fuel problem. A bad fuel pump will act like that on and off. I would suggest getting a fuel pressure guage. A bad regulator doesn't always come out the vacuum port. I'm not to sure, but maybe you can rent one from autozone. Also try replacing the cap and rotor, along with fuel filter. You can try a few of the online service manuals we have listed in the FAQ. Also you can always post in the off topic area, since it is off topic and maybe someone else knows anything that can help.

Crazy is right ck the fuel psi the filter you changed was prob pluged gm has a habit of fuel pump failure if you let the filter plug up . I hav change many gm fuel pumps after someone has replaced a pluge fuel filter and thought they fixed the prob with in a week the pump gives up. just because you can hear the pump run does not mean you have the correct psi

Along with the fuel pressure you can check the engine codes if it has any with a paper clip jumpered between the far right two pins on the top row of the obd port. Just turn the key to the on position and count flashes. GM V6's are famous for blown intake gaskets so I would investigate in that area too. Could be coil packs too. You can check those by taking each one off and measure the resistance across the output terminals (where the spark plug wires plug into) and then across the input side (where they plug into the control module). I'm not sure of the specs but they should all be about the same, if one is way off theres your problem.

Ok got some stuff.

Dropped the tank and found.....it was empty. Gauge was reading over a 1/4, so not sure what the issue there is, but it will get replaced. Put some gas in, and the pressure is around 38-42 PSI. Key on, non running is 40-41. No bleed down after I shut the system off. Havent had a chance to hook everything back up and run it around to see if that was the whole issue yet. Will post up results.
