Default Help with Gear shift

Got in my 95 dodge today and it would not crank. When i tried to change from park to nuetral it felt like mush. Got to looking and found what i believe is my problem. Where the gear shift comes threw the firewall it goes down and comes to a T. One side goes into the tranny (I assume) and the other side has what looks like a place for a cotter pin of some sort. Well whatever was holding the rod in place is missing and the whole thing will wiggle back and forth when i stuck it in the tranny everything worked fine. My question is what goes on the end.

Thanks In advance.

The bushings and grommet go bad and fall off. Mine fell off I replaced them with a metal collar with a set screw in it got it at ace hardware. Am talking about the ones on the tourqe shaft and at the swivel lock. You need to see which one has failed and replace. the stock ones are polyproplane and fail use a metal collar.
