Default 90 3.9L 2wd dakota needs help

I've had my dakota for about 2 years now. It's my baby. It's pretty close to stock and it pulls pretty hard and sounds pretty nice. I don't know if it was an option at the time but it has a stock cold air intake, which i didnt realize was clogged up with mud. Long story short I was taken by suprise next time I pushed the pedal to the floor. But like most young men... I tasted a little improvement and WANT MORE!!! haha I was wondering if there were any moderately cheap things to do/install that would make noticeable improvements in horsepower or torque. I know that its got a crappy fuel injector/ halfway carbuerator and maybe something could be found there... ANY help is much appreciated...

That fuel injector/halfway carburater you speak of is Throttle Body Injection system, and your not the only one lookin for more power but im personaly lookin for an LA318 to put in because there easier to be modded to push out more power

Oh and by the way, Welcome to the site!!!

Thanks
hah I knew it was the throttle body injector, it just seems that a blend of a carbuerator and a fuel injector isn't the greatest idea... maybe im wrong. I did some research on the 293ci and it was actually supposed to be a v8 but the funding dropped out so at the last second before production they shaved off the back two cylinders. Which leaves doubt in my mind that the engine might just be a little lackluster from the design point of view...

Turn the lid of the air cleaner upside down. You will have to back out the thread rod a little to get threads to screw the wing nut on. This will give you 360 degree of air intake instead of just thru the funnel...

Actaully are V6 3.9's are 239CI and i dont know what research you were looking up but the 3.9 is actually just like a 318 just with a few changes, and it was started back in 86 and were carburated from 86-very early 88

I accidentally hit the 9 instead of the 3 first... cut me a little slack...
anyways what I was saying was that the 239 "is" the 318, missing the back two cylinders. So we're saying the same thing... I think.
