Then Why the hell was told it would cost thousands of dollers just to get the 3.9 to push out more power and not even beable to push out how much i wouldve wanted?

So i would be able to reuse the tbi system and all of the electronics? So it would be a direct swap of components then? Reuse my distributor flex plate valve covers etc...

Sorry, I should reword that. Its very expensive to produce big power, but it's not very hard to do. Higer flow heads, a cam, longer throw rockers, and a bottom end that can handle it and you can easily have mid 300s to 400 hp. Throw in a stroker kit on top of that should put you up closer to 400 hp and you're easily in the 400-500 ft*lb torque range.

It will be expensive to build any motor. The point I was trying to make is the amount of money it will cost to get a slant 6 up to 400 hp can be used to built a 318 or 360 and the latter will have a better powerband for a truck.

Yes. The LA 318s all had the same block and heads, it was the intake that changed as it went to efi.

thanks guys for the info. I am waiting on tomorrow when everything is open to make my decision on whether to go with the salvage yard motor or a reman for $600-$800. (no brainier right?)
