42RH behind a 5.2L magnum?
Well, here's the story. My brother's tranny just went out again after 50,000 miles of the rebuild. I called to get him a new one rebuilt. The first one was rebuilt by AAMCO. I asked him to verify that the 46RH was installed with a torque converter, he says his receipt from AAMCO says they rebuilt a 42RH. It is a 93 Dakota, 2WD with the 318.
Is it possible AAMCO swapped out for a smaller tranny? Or did Dodge by chance install a 42RH behind the 318? Our FAQ says it should have come with a 46RH.
I drive a manual, so what is the best way to visually tell the 46RH from the 42Rh while it is under a truck?

It is possible for them to put the 42rh behind it. To my knowledge it is externally the same. So the only way to for sure know is check the ID numbers on it. Above the oil pan on driver side I think. The Service manual has the location.
As for the best place to order one I would suggest http://www.phoenixtrans.com/
I went with a local shop just incase something is acting up I can have them check it without taking it out and shipping it out.

Got the numbers but the FSM doesn't decode it for me. PK52118730.
As far as the tranny, what worries me is they may have used the same case but the receipt says 42RH. Does this mean they could have built a 46RH with 42RH internal workings?
