Sirius antenna installation suggestions 95 Reg Cab
Hi all,
I have a Sirius satellite radio I'd like to install in my Dakota. It is a '95, regular cab, short bed 2wd version. The antenna installation instructions on the Sirius website suggest, for trucks, to put the magnetic antenna on the roof of the cab and run the wire inside via the 3rd brake light built into the cab. My problem: the 3rd brake light on my truck is back on the tailgate, so that's no help.
I'd appreciate people replying with wisdom they've gained when it comes to doing something like this. I can't be missing the college and pro football games while I'm driving, now, so any help is greatly appreciated!

ya, your not going to be able to do it that way, but really what a little wire showing going to do?
if its the sliding window in the rear run it through there and close it shut, it wont hurt nothing.. and keeps the window shut enough. and just stick the antenna on the roof, as in the wire once inside.. its easy to hide from there,, hide behind the panel right under the window around the seats.. and down underneath the carpet along the edge.

If it were mine, cause I'm very picky about the quality of work I do to my truck, I'd pull the back glass out and run the wire between the weather stripping and the cab. The only think that holds that back glass in is the weather stripping, so removal and installation is very easy. It will also allow you to hide the wire better.
Thanks for the multiple suggestions!
@dakota33 - the sliding glass is a good idea, unfortunately I have a solid rear window so that's not an option for me. Certainly it would have made things easy!
@318 - Like you, I'm fussy about the things I do on my truck. Unlike you, I have no mechanical experience. Or talent. So I'm going to inspect the weather stripping around the rear window very, very carefully before I decide to do anything. I can just see myself making a rookie mistake and cracking the rear window... Of course, then I'd likely have the option of installing a window with a slide
@Crazy - For the cowl, I take it you ran the wiring in through the firewall? Or is my assumption about needing to do that wrong? The idea of hiding the wiring beneath the cowl has a strong appeal.
Thanks all!
