How to "safely and correctly" remove and install a brake booster
The brakes on my 92 Dakota have been super stiff for the longest time. I recently found out that the brake booster is the cause. So....... I went to a local junkyard and removed a booster from a 88 Dakota, It took me 3 HOURS to remove it. The steering column makes it almost impossible to get to the bolts holding the booster in. So My question to you guys is - How the hell do I get my old booster out and the new booster in without destroying the steering column? Are there any tricks to it?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Are you sure it is the brake booster? A vacuum leak or disconnected hoses can cause it.
But for the correct way check the FAQ in this section for the service manual. That will give you full details and pictures.

It is hard to get to, but I think I used u-joints on a ratchet (and maybe a ratcheting wrench too).
I believe I ended up removing the brake pedal itself, and it did help.
