Another harness question....
I know I asked prior if the wiring harness for pwr locks and windows happened to be IN the DOORS already, even if the truck wasnt equipped. The concensus there was no - however, has ANYONE ever removed their kick-panels, and seen if the PLUGS for that door harnesses exist? If so, I could buy the harnesses, motors, regulators , and door panels from a donor truck, and install those - and be totally OEM?
Also, would anyone know if the door harnesses would be interchangable from the 91 to the 96 models? I don't see why they wouldn't be, but as we all know, the later years moved the controls higher on the door, for easier access - meaning the harness for the switches is longer....
This would be an interesting project if I had access to a parts truck at the moment...
Also, harnesses - might they match up between a 90 and a 91? Woudl the door panels crossover - reg cab to my x-cab?
I have access to complete 90 reg cab parts truck - picking up a bumper, and a few minor trim pieces to complete my interior tomorrow.

I don't know my self. But I would say do some homework. Go out to the Junkyards and check. Or go check that truck your going to look at. Check www.craigslist.org and see if there are any you can check out.
No the plugs arent there. Your going to be best off to switch doors. Heres why. If you get 2 doors that match your truck its a pull it off put it on kinda thing. The plugs will exist in your harness below your dash to plug the door acc in, so you bolt em on, plug em in and drive away.
I suppose it would be possible to swap everything across, but youd want to make sure you got the harness from the doors you took everything else from. It would be 10 times more of a PITA to do it that way than to switch the doors. Trust me. Ive done it twice now.

Thanks, sksyhark186. That was all I needed to know. The likelyhood that i'd find doors to match would be a million to one - I've seen a lot of daks of the right vintage, but this is the ONLY brown one I have seen. Besides, I'm working on a tight budget - buying the harnesses, etc..., would be a lot cheaper than the entire door for me - and I'm not afraid of a little work... that's what a digi cam is for, take pics as you tear apart, for future reference in reassembly...

Really? Around here it would be just as cheap to buy the whole door as piecing crap outta one. I understand the paint issue though.
Just remember its not just the harness, the plugs, the switches. You need the whole inside door panel. The cutouts are wrong on the manuals. Your basically taking the whole door anyway.

I know - but they seem to charge a premium for the metal....
Besides, even if I got the entire door, then gutted it, or else, then I'd be stuck with a pair of doors laying around...
My garage is chock full of misc computer gear, tools, and bikes.... i'd have no place to put them....
