Cool replacing engine

well my 93 dakota is getting old and tired, has anyone ever tried to put a 406 stroker short block in a 1 gen dakota? will my factory ecm and fule system work with the short block?i would like to bring up the torque.hp is not a factor. i plan on using the top end of my old engine. im hoping this will work!

Do you mean 408 stroker? The 408 is a 360 bored .030 over with a 4 inch stroke. A 390 is a 318 bored .030 over with a 4 inch stroke. I'm building a 408 for my project truck, but when I'm done its going to be far from factory.

The factory ecm will probably starve the motor if it runs at all. If your using a factory cam and heads, a mopar performance ecm might work, or there are links in FAQ2 for companies that can reflash the ecm. Your fuel system should work though.

Here's a question for you though... why use factory heads on a stroker bottom end? You're paying all that money for a built stroker short block and you're going to end up starving the engine for what it can really do. You could get more power out the 318 with high flow heads and a cam than you could a 408 with factory heads and cam.

Also, power = (torque) x (rotational velocity) of the engine, so if you increase torque, you'll increase hp proportionally.
