hey guys sorry i didnt manage to get pics up but i'm going to get the fluids for the tranny and t-case, i know the t-case uses at+4, but still unsure what I need for the tranny. Was there more than one tranny made for the 88 v6 4x4 LE manual? Hopefully I get an answer before I go to Autozone tomorrow cuz I don't trust the people that work there to sell me the correct fluid.

Your manual if you have one will tell you the correct fluid.

I'm having trouble finding it in the book... I searched and found different answers to what lubricant to use. I checked at autozone - they couldn't tell me even with the computer database. I also asked them about the shaft seals and he said they didn't carry them LOL! I just walked out.

I got a bunch of stuff the other day for the truck at harbor freight, got the rtv seal maker and some snap ring pliers for the t-case and various things for the body work. - btw. Don't waist your money on those orange suction cups, I have had no success with them. All I need is the filler I ordered, some fiberglass resin & rustoleum bedliner and I'm just about done as far as supplies give or take a few things.

According to the FAQ there was the A535 and NP2500. From what I've been able to find they both take 10w30, but information is limited.

Drivetrain.com actually makes it sound like those are the same transmission, and the only one used in the early Dakotas...

http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_cata...rhaul_kit.html

So maybe it doesn't matter which one you have an its just 10w30 either way?

Here is what I could gather from a whole lot of google searching. This may or may not be right...

New Process Gear was a company that made drivetrain parts for Chrysler. In 1991, they set up a joint venture with General Motors (and Ford?) and changed the company name to New Venture Gear. From what I can tell, New Process Gear was still a division of New Venture Gear (maybe making just transfer cases, leaving the transmissions to the New Venture name?). In 2004, Magna International bought New Venture Gear (which really has nothing to do with our generation trucks).

Anyway, New Process Gear named the transmission in question the A535. When New Venture took over in 1991, they renamed the transmission the NV2500. As far as I can tell they are still the same transmission.

Again, this may or may not be right, cause the info on that company is very hard to find.

I'm gunna go with a 10w30 synthetic as other people seem to be using it. I think that the information on the tranny would be useful to have in the faq?

Man what a headache.

Thanks.

Picked up the fluids today and asked again about the shaft seals, all they had in their database was the two transmission seals so I'm hoping I don't have to go to the dealership... I'm gunna do some searching and see if I can get them online.

So about a week or so ago I changed the fluid in the tranny, when i got the drain plug off what came out? About a pint of transmission fluid. Hopefully this didn't damage anything as it must have been driven close do 800 miles like this.
