Default Windsheild wiper issue

So ever since I've had this truck, the intermitten wiper settings haven't worked... it just runs at regular speed no matter what setting I have the switch on. After going through the FSM, I though I had found all the parts of the system. The multi-function switch on the steering column turns it on, and there is a control box behind the dash right under the ashtray that controls the intermitten speeds. I replaced both with parts I found at a junkyard and they didn't work either. Then I replaced both again with ones out of my 2wd project truck.... still nothing. Is it really likely that I have had 3 bad sets of parts, or is there something I'm missing? I'm temped to pull the BCM from my project truck and swap them since they are both '95s. Anybody have any other ideas?

Oh, and on a slightly related subject, the windsheild wipers don't move at all when they get too cold.

LOL You need repair advice!

The manual had continuity tests you can do on the switches and module. Did you try them? If so then wires! The most common as you know is ground or power feeds. Just study the diagram and test it.

I just had to do that on my cruise control switches yesterday. A quick swap and finally I can cruise!

Yeah yeah yeah, it happens once in a blue moon :P

I guess I could spend a bit more time in the manual, but unless there are more parts of the system I overlooked, I really can't see 3 sets of switches being bad!

i don't know if this applies to you or not, but on my 01 ram, the intermittent wipers would cycle only on the fastest setting, irregardless of the position of the delay switch.

i did a lot of research to determine the central timing module (ctm) sent a 12v pulse to the low speed winding of the wiper motor. this caused the wipers to cycle one stroke up/down. more research and testing determined that my wiper motor was good. more research determined that the delay dial on the multifunction switch controlled a variable voltage to the CTM. mine was ok but i replaced it anyway.

after a lot of thinking and cussing, i discovered that a missing fuse labeled power windows or doors or seats or something provided power to the CTM to make everything work right. when i replaced that fuse the intermittent wipers started working again. i also found out that missing fuse silenced the warning dinger.

I guess I'll be going through my fuse box! Thanks dhvaughan!

Well my truck never had a warning buzzer... a PO pulled it out. But anyway, I just went through the fuse box and everything checked out ok. I took the warning buzzer out of my project truck and it works... I guess now I have one :P

Well, the computer of mine that the FSM is on is on its death bed, and the new one I'm on now is about to get reformatted with windows 7, so I haven't put anything on it yet... so I guess I'll have to start up my old computer and start searching more.

it was a 50/50 shot.
you're where I was. i'd replaced the major pieces involved with no change in operation...

check the output of the intermittent wiper control dial at the finger switch, and again at the control module. on mine, the finger switch was a variable resistor, so it was passing something like (and i'm making this up cause i can't remember) 6-9 volts to the control module. verify the same variable voltage is making it to the control box, and is not lost in a broken or shorted out wire. then verify a 12 volt pulse to the low speed wiper relay. you'll be able to actually hear the relay clicking closed and back open.

you may need the service manual to find the wiring diagram. before i got a service manual, i went by the dealer and asked nicely if they would print me a wiper wiring diagram. they said ok, and pulled it up on the computer and printed it in about 10 seconds.

You can shut them off right?

If I had to take a guess I would say it sounds like your wires are not making connections in the harness for the intermittent speeds. Of the speed settings, which one are you getting when you start them up? And will it wash? I think you should have off, 4 delay settings, one low, one high, and one wash. There is no way that I would think you had 3 bad sets of parts.

Yeah, I can shut them off. Here is what happens... If I turn them one click and it will be on low. Then it stays that speed through all of the delays and on low, and on high it will go at high speed. It will wash like normal too... press wash and it pulses them 2-3 times. Sometimes, if I leave it on delay 1, it will eventually stop alltogether and force me to turn them to low, but if I wait a few seconds and turn them back to delay 1, they run at low speed again.
