Default Transmission question?????

I have a '93 Dodge Dakota 4X4, 5.2 liter AT. Can I use a transmission from a 2WD?

Only if you don't want 4 wheel drive. The two have different tailhousings and the transfer case won't bolt to the 2wd transmission.

Thanks, a friend told me all I would have to do is change the tailhousing but I wanted to check here before I tried.

On some trucks thats sortof true. Not really quite that simple....but it can be done.

Not on dakotas however.

Did we ever figure out the driveshaft length differences between a 2WD and 4WD? Both for auto and manual?

I don't think they are comparable! My 2wd has a 2 peice driveshaft and my 4x4 has a one piece driveshaft... they are two completely different setups. On that note, I can't decide if I want to keep the 2 piece driveshaft or have one custom built!
