trying not to BREAK it....
Back right side tire locks up if you push the breaks at all.....even just a small touch on the breaks and bam.....locked up solid in the back right. After a few bone shattering stops....and hair raising skids.....every thing works fine. However, if it sits for a few hours, when you start up again, same problem.......
any ideas?
any ideas?
I will take the break apart this weekend. Its a drum, which I have no experience with. what will I be looking for. If its a cylinder like you say it could be....where will that be?
thanks again

same thing happened on our civic, and we ended up just redoing the whole rear brakes because the parts were cheap, the brake wheel cylinders will be visibly leaking or wont compress when you try to. we also ordered a new hardware kit, it was fairly cheap. i hate drums too, if its your first time take pics before you take it all apart at each stage, it will help you remember where everything goes after. get a haynes or chilton manual as well, it will help.
get a friend to help you, remove the drum and get your friend to push the brake down " SLOWLY " until the shoes start to move out, then let off the brake and the shoes should move back into there original position , if they stay out the wheel cylinder is seizing or the springs have overheated and lost there tension. then try pushing the shoes back into place, if its hard then it's cylinders, if it's easy then it's probably the springs and you have to replace them and adjust the brake so it's not too tight.
i had wheel cylinder problems with mine too, i solved the problem by replacing both cylinders, shoes and spring kits for under $ 150 canadian. i found that if one seizes the other is not far behind. (read the thread things i wish i had of done). just like formula said take lots of pictures because if you get it wrong you'll have no back brakes, not trying to scare you, positive you can do it, but rear brakes are set up different for different rigs.
