Default vacuum problem... i think?

i have another problem with the old girl. actually, it's a problem i've had for awhile now, but it would come and go, now it's come and won't go. the truck is lacking power. when i get on the gas, the truck feels like something is holding it back, like i'm hauling a trailer or something. if i have my heater setting to "floor", and i take off cool, all is well. but if i come after it any at all, (and with a v8 in a little truck like that a fella usually comes after it alot lol) the heater setting goes from "floor" to "defrost" on it's own and switches back to "floor" once i let off. when the weather is damp, the truck will act up even more by wanting to stall at a stop light/sign, or if i'm running down the road in the wet, it'll loose power for a few seconds then pick it back up but not without backfiring through the throttle body. i just today tried a junk yard EGR valve off a 3.9 v6. i don't know what year the truck was that i took the part off of as it didn't even have a front clip on it.... it was free so worth the try. i'm still not excluding the EGR valve as it was a junk yard freebie, but what else should i be looking at? as always, any help is appreciated.

Troy.

Yes it could be a vacuum leak. Just take a close look at all vacuum lines. If needed replace them all. Vacuum hose is extreme cheep.
