Default what the F

Talked to the guy I got the truck from about the tranny....seems he has been putting type F tranny fluid in.....

yikes.....

he had no idea what ATF + 4 even was......

ah life in the USVI......

I deff need to flush out the tranny.....was not able to get to it yesterday like planned....

any one know how bad the type F is? would it cause the slow shifts.....and the burnt smell in the fluid?

is it going to F my tranny?

Dang that sucks!

I'm not a transmission fluid expert. But all of them are basically hydraulic fluid. So they all will work for basic needs of a transmission. But some have more qualities then others.

So I would say as long as you were not having slipping issues there wasn't to much damage. But a burnt smell is never good.

Go to a shop to have it power flushed. The torque converter holds a lot of fluid. It all needs to be changed out.

I'm not transmission fluid expert either, but from what I've gathered on this forum is that its very bad to use anything but a chrysler specified atf+4. That said, I would agree with Crazy... if you do a FULL system flush on it and get it replaced with a good quality atf+4 ASAP theres a good chance it will live if it isn't slipping right now.

i just did in the yard. disconnect the line at the rad and put a pan under the line, start the truck, put it in neutral until all the fluid pumps out and add 4 liters. connect the line back to the rad and run it in neutral for one minute. disconnect the line again and run it in neutral again until it's drained, then add another 4 liters. that swaps out 8 liters out of 12. it's a big help to the tranny and is cheap.

i got big dreams but a small budget.
