Default 1991 dodge dakota

just got this truck for 450$ great body no rust motor really strong 145,000 miles on it.3.9 v6,but some reason there is no reverse, but when you put the truck in neutral its still in gear meaning going forward and if you pull it alittle out of pack its still in gear to forward.slips a tiny when it shifts in 2 gear but just little off the gas and does not slip no more.only at 25mph.any ideas.

Sounds like the shift linkage is misadjusted. Check the fluid level too, that may be the reason for the slippage.

yah try adjusting the linkage first. leave it in park and loosen the lockbolt on the rod where its attached to the tranny lever. push the lever all the way forward and tighten the bolt.
if that does not work then it may need a band adjustment. if the rod adjustment does not work ill put the band adjustment procedure in here (according to haynes) you'll need an inch pound torque wrench.
if that does not work your probably looking at finding a good rebuild shop.
oh yah, also try changing the fluid. i found that helped sometimes if the fluid is worn out. it probably has not been changed since it was new. 145,000 miles is a lot on old fluid. i found with my 89 tranny, start with the easiest and cheapest and work your way up.

look at your steering column under the hood. there is a rod attached to it, follow it down to the tranny. you will see where the rod attaches to the tranny lever. that is where you adjust it.
