Default Heater control backlights

Hey everyone, do our trucks actually have backlights for the heater controls? I was driving with a friend at night earlier today and he asked me what was wrong with the lights behind the heater controls. Are they supposed to be lit up when the headlights are on??? I only got this truck about a month ago and it never had lights behind there.

Take the heater control unit out of the dash. The front is held on with plastic clips, be careful not to break them. Once the face is off there should be 2 or 3 bulbs in the circuit board. They typically burn out(my HCU only lights up half) just use bulbs from a boneyard unit or if all else fails the small AA Maglite bulbs work too, they are just considerably brighter than the stock bulbs. I'll take mine apart and post pics of how to do it...It's really quite simple.
