Default 4HI and 4Low problem.

Well first off, I have a 94 Dodge Dakota 5.2L V8. My problem is, that whenever I shift into 4HI and drive around for awhile then shift back into 2wd my transfer case will not disengage my front differential, thus leaving me stuck in 4HI, but when I shift into 2wd and back up, the 4HI disengages and I'm free to drive around in 2wd. Another problem that I noticed at the start of this winter, whenever I shift into 4HI and drive around, I hear a semi loud humming noise coming from (I think) the front differential. It's never did this last winter from what I noticed. Also whenever I'm in 4HI driving around, and I hit a dry patch in the road, that humming noise get even louder and it seems like my front axle wants to bind up, thus jerking me all around the road. And last my 4Low problem. When I bought my truck 3 years ago, I was shifting through my 4x4 gear to see if they worked, and when I shifted into 4Low and drove it about 10 feet I heard a loud CLUNK, I quickly shifted out of 4Low and haven't used it since. So about 2 weeks ago, I tried to shift into 4Low and heard a grinding of gears, it says to be in neutral, which I was, then it got stuck there halfway to 4Low and I had to jam the lever back into 2wd. Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Cheers!

Sounds like your shift linkage is miss-adjusted. Try adjusting it. The sound may be that your front diff is low on oil. The binding issue is typical of any 4wd on dry road. 4wd is for loose dirt not streets.
