Default More tranny swap questions...

Ok, been doing a ton of reading (thanks for all the great info!) and I am convinced my '92 v6 Dakota will need a V8, now just a question of funds, and do I use a 318 or the 360?

Now for the questions. My transmission feels like it it is on its last legs, and I am not wanting to spend the money on rebuilding the 42rh that is in there. If I get the 46rh that I will need to run sturdy with either V8, can I bolt it up to and run without issue on my current v6 until I get ready to do the swap?

and second, I read where we can use gen II engines without too much issue, but can I use a gen II (I see the 96 had the 46re too); ie: 46re? can it be made to work or do I need to stick with a 46rh when I do the swap?

Much appreciate it!

The RE transmissions can only be used in 1996 and forward years, where there was a RE transmission to begin with.
Unless you swap out the PCM and wiring.
