eliminating the ECU....
On my 91 with the 318 and a500, is it possible to convert to carb, and an internally regulated alt, and just get rid of the ECU?
I've been toying with the idea of either just trading it off, or buying a 'clunker' for a work car, and building the dak.
If I build the dak up, I will either rebuild the 328, or swap in a 360. Would like to look for MILD perf enhancements - mild cam, exhaust, intake, etc... since this is not a magnum truck, figure it would be cheaper to build it more-or-less oldschool and go carbbed, and get rid of the computer...
Any ideas / thoughts on this?

Go for it! My '95 2wd project is going to be carbbed one day.
Here are some things you need to think about...
Transmission's overdrive and TC lockup is electronically controlled by the computer, so you need to think about how to hard wire them.
You already mentioned the alt.
The fuel system need to be changed over to a lower pressure set up. TPI runs around 12-15 psi and carbs run around 6-8 psi. Easiest way to do this is drop the tank and put in a fuel cell with an external pump.
You need to change over the entire ignition system from computer controlled to mechanical. Easiest way to do this is with an MSD box and grab the distributor off of an old LA v8 with a factory carb.
If I think of anything else I'll post it.
