power steering issue
i'm thinking my pump went out.
92 318ci.
drove to work fine, parked it for the day. Got back in after work and no power steering. i checked the fluid and its full. i drove away and then had power steering while in motion. so i was thinking the pump was getting weak. at a dead stop i cant even move the wheel. i tried putting it in neutral to see if i could bring up the revs and get more flow and that didn't help. when i take the cap off the reservoir i can see fluid moving. the pump never whined until today but its not your typical " low fluid whine" its much quieter and does it even when not turning the wheel.
any ideas? I've never had a pump go out on me so i'm not so sure of the symptoms

Ya it can be the pump. But it also may be the rack and pinion for 2wd or steering gear box for 4wd. They all have internal valve that can fail. I bet the service manual in the FAQ in this section has a trouble shooting/ Diagnostic chart.
