Default Manual RP steering

Has anyone ever seen it? It would be on the base model, with 4 banger engine.
I hear that the power steering can be used without the pump, and it isn't all that hard to handle without the pump. Anybody know more about this? I want to convert mine to manual, but the RP for manual is rare and expensive, about twice what they want for power RP....

I'm not sure where to look for a manual steering rack, but they are out there.

But about using the power steering rack without the pump... yes you can do it. You'll want to take it out of the truck, fill it up with fluid until you are sure all the air bubbles are out, and then cap off the fluid holes. The problem with this is that the manual steering rack is geared down to make it easier to turn without power assist, whereas the gearing in the power rack will make it a lot harder to steer without the power assist! If you drive in city a lot, I wouldn't suggest it, but if your truck sees almost all highway driving, then it shouldn't cause you a problem. Somthing you could do to make it easier, however, is get a bigger steering wheel.

I did the swap and, I went back to power in a weak. I used a 87-90 rack in mine and had to use machined shime for the tie rod ends. there smaller where the go into the spindle. with the manaul rack theres to much feed back, because our trucks are so front heavy. I hope this helps you. good luck..

I've got manual steering in mine. And I need a new rack and, yeah, about twice as expensive as power rack. That's why I want to go with power steering. I think I can get all the parts, new and used, cheaper than a new non-power rack.
