Lots of possibilities. Yes it could be the splice. Did you check for voltage at the ASD relay? Did you check for continuity in between the ASD relay and Coil? And from the computer to the coil? Did you check for power to the computer? Are you getting a check engine light?

I would suggest downloading the service manual in the FAQ in this section. That will have everything you need.

It doesn't have a ignition box. It is mulitiport fuel injection with computer controlled ignition/ timing. It is all run by the computer which is on the passengers wheel well.

It could be a bad crankshaft position sensor and/or camshaft position sensor. If the coil has power but won't spark then it must be cause the computer isn't letting it fire through the distributor.

I think you're right. If a sensor isn't being picked up my the computer the coil won't work. Didn't I just find that out with the P/N switch.

I got a 92 Dakota 4x4 for free from a co worker. I couldnt drive it home. no start, once I got it home I put in a fresh battery, and started down the list of things that could be causing the issue. there is a long list of shops that did really bad hatchet work on the ole girl. she has 115K on the 3.9L that is showing some leaking. I am going to replace the valve cover gaskets to slow the leaking problem. anything you can come up with will really help out.

I have replaced all the sensors that I can think of. tps. throttle kicker, iac, new gasket for the throttle body. cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and coil pickup. I took all the epoxy out of the pcm and didnt see anything that indicated a problem. I sealed it back up and reinstalled it and I went through the wires under the fuse/relays on the driver side fender skirt. I did find some loose connections. once that was done, found that the plugs were fuel fouled. cleaned them up and the thing fired up first try. ran for a couple of days. I ran her up to the gas station, for fresh gas, and I came out last night and she is back to a no start problem.

You didn't give enough details. Does the starter turn? Tons of possibilities. Just like above did you test for power? Codes? Fuel pressure? Also don't be scared to start a new thread.

I am having the same problem. I replaced the entire distributor and it ran for 3 days and then died again. If you come up with a solution please pass it on and I will do the same. I tried going to the FAQ and looked for the service manaul, but I couldn't find it (nothing came up in the search).
