Default Missing Timing Marks

I recently purchased an '88 Dakota w/ a 3.9 5-speed. When I went to check the timing the timing tab marks appear to be missing. Probably from rust, etc. I rubbed and cleaned the bracket the best I could, however there were no marks that surfaced.

Does anybody have a picture of their timing tabs so I may attempt to duplicate the position?

Attached is a pic of mine.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to DodgeForum!

I'm having trouble placing the angle that picture was taken at, but I'm going to guess its at the 12 oclock position? I'm not sure about the LA engines, but here is picture from the FSM for the magnum engines... they might be the same. It looks like the timing marks should be about 3 oclock rather than 12 oclock.

Ahhhhhhhh .... I see now. You are correct in your assumption in the view in my pic being at roughly 12 o'clock. It took me some time to find the marks at 3 as you stated, however after removing all of the dirt and grime I did find it.

Thanks for your help!
