Default Newbie with a question

Hello everyone,

I just found this forum and I just wanted to say thanks for being here to help out.

I have a 96 Dakota. I just recently had to put in a new starter. I had to take off the steering rod and haven't had any problems with it since, however I am now having trouble with other gauges/dash lights/systems.

After changing the starter my cruise control went completely out and my airbag light stays on all the time. These never before caused me any problems but with the airbag light on I cannot get the truck inspected.

Does anyone know if there is any correlation between these two both suddenly not working?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Tim

First start by checking the fuses and check all connectors. Check all vacuum lines. My guess you knocked off a connector when changing the starter. Make sure all your power and ground wires coming off of the battery are connected.

We have the service manual in the FAQ. Use the wiring diagrams to check grounds and power feeds.

We've checked all the connections and fuses twice and can't find anything wrong with them, which is why I am so confused as to what could have happened.

I've been doing the maintenance on my truck since the day we bought it and this has got me stumped.

Thanks.

Tim

Ok, so I'm out here working on my problem and I have no power going to the cruise control or airbag. Horn works fine. All connections are good.

I am now a a complete loss. I've never before dealt with this kind of issue in all the years I've owned the truck.

Any other ideas?

Broken wire somewhere down the line is my best guess

I have noticed how bad the wiring is in these trucks. I have little issues all the time. You most likely have a bad wire or 2 or 3 or 4 lol. I would start by figuring out the wires for the airbag and cruise control and checking them out.
