Default Cruise Control works 1 day but not the next

94 Dakota V6Magnum. AC and OEM Radio issues recently resolved.

Each time truck started there is 50-50 chance cruise control will work.
It will work well and continuously until truck stopped and turned off.
Then another 50-50 chance it will work again upon startup

Do not think it is a vacum issue as AC/Heater mode and blend doors
all work correctly whether cc working or not.

Maybe a brake disengage issue when starting? Or speed sensor issue?

Thanks in advance for all thoughts, suggestions and help.

brake switch or clutch switch can lock it out.
i don't know about dak's, but on the ram there is a vac line to a cruise diaphragm that's under the battery.

It could be anything. The factory service manual has a diagnostic chart that will help you. You can download the service manual in the FAQ in this section.

Update:
It has been several days since the cc has worked.

One further bit of info is that upon starting the ignition sequence there is currently
no cruise light (usually green or blue?) upon the dash as other icons light for a few seconds.

I assume this it would be normal for that cc symbol to be illuminated such as the abs, etc.. But not really sure.

Though it could be a burn out bulb/led it might be an important piece of
information to add.

cc checklist:???
-------------------
steering wheel buttons
brake pressure switch
gear switch
speed sensor
vacum

Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

I don't believe there is a cruise indicator on the dash.

Default Cruise Final Update

Removed the 2 steering column plastic covers and cruise worked!
Replaced the flat panel dash board (with HVAC outlets on both sides)carefully and it still works. One adjustment that I did was clipped the rubber gasket on that dash panel so that it slipped over the steering column *much* easier. Though there is a 1/4 inch gap over the steering well, I can easily live with that as function of the cc was critical.

Not sure where the gear switch for cc is located but I possibly impinged it with the earlier tight dash panel insertion...

Thanks any and all for your help!
BTW Now that it is working there is no dash cruise indicator light... Maybe that was later generations

Okay I'm glad you got it working. Ya there is no indicator light.

Default Update on cruise control

Since last post the cc went out again. Removed the 2 plastic casing/covers on steering column. Took for a test drive...

While driving I slightly positioned the steering column wires 1 inch toward myself/steering wheel and the cruise worked suddenly! Worked with steering column position in any position.

I fixated the wires/harness in this position and it has worked consistently for roughly 10 days. Will return the plastic cosmetic casings soon. However, worst case scenario I will place black plastic landscaping pipe over steering column. Just kidding...

This is consistent with previous finding that the cc would not engage with the steering column in the up position but would in the down position (toward knees).

My apoligies for appearing more dense, than I usually am, with thinking there was a cc steering wheel position sensor that was possibly faulty.

Happy while it works!
