Stupid Tailgate Question
its got a v8 but its 2wd. since i blew the trans last fall i started getting around 9-10mpg with the bad trans. i just recently put a manual in it and i haven't drivien it long enough to actually find out my mileage. but from my house to where i work its 13miles one way and that 1 miles from my house to the interstate and about 3 1/2 from the interstate to work, but thats not including what i do outside of work.
The most accurate way to figure your mpg is to run it until the low fuel light comes on, fill it up even if it hurts your wallet, reset the trip odometer to zeros, and then only stop in for gas when the light comes on again. Divide the miles on the trip odometer by the gallons you pump to refill to get your mpg.
i've seen a bunch of tests on tailgates and covers.
i thought the tonneu would be the best because it's
the most aerodynamic. but w/ the stock set up that
swirling wind creates a downforce on the highway heping
w/ gas milage. every other mod eliminates this downforce
and kills your milage.

thats just the problem though, the low fuel light doesn't work. but after running out of gas twice i found out that the line before the letter "E" is 4 gallons left and the top of the letter "E" is empty. i always reset the trip before i leave the station which is how i came up with 230miles filling it half way. but once i get the new mirrors and insurance back on the truck i'll get the new mileage figured out and we'll have to see the change
Definitely do that...refigure your mpg...since your low fuel light isn't working. You need to know for sure how far you can go on the gas you got...especially since the gas gauge is known for problems. Could be wrong, but I bet you'll find your mpg is lower than you think...American engines made before 95-96 aren't that fuel efficient cause they didn't have to be...gas was cheaper then and the government wasn't pushing for higher fuel efficiency as much back then.
