Default AC Experts!!

89 Dakota 3.9. As far as I know, all the a/c components are original. It has always blown cold and just recently I'm getting this strange sound from the evaporator area. It sounds like a boat horn off in the distance. It runs fine for the first couple of hours of stop and go driving with a mix of highway. Then the drone starts. It only happens at a full stop/idle, and once you start moving, it stops. I also noticed the line that runs from the compressor to the expansion valve (high side?), that is usually cold to the touch and sweating, is now hot and dry. I get plenty of drip from the condensation tube. Once it sits over night, the cycle starts again. What do you think?

When was the last time you had the system serviced? It could be as simple as evacuating the system and put fresh refrigerant and oil in it. That stuff doesn't last forever.

Never serviced in the 4+ years I've owed it and who knows before that.

Sounds like the refrigerant might be a bit low. A fresh service would be a good idea. The seals don't last forever so a sealer may be in order soon.
