Default Need Help! Truck wont start.

Hi everyone.

I was headin to help my girlfriend move today and the truck started acting funny. it shut off twice on my way there at stop lights. I got to the apt and started packing things all fine. we went to leave and the truck would start for a moment, spudder and run uber rough then shut down. shortly after it wouldnt start at all. just crank fire for half a moment then off. crank, fire for half a moment then off. I ended up having it towed home.

One thing i noticed was a strong oil smell after trying to start it a few times. I don't know if this is a big deal or not.

Also, I dont hear any sound of the fuel pump priming when i turn the key over. I do hear a small "snap" after the time of which the fuel pump would be priming.

I have a buddy coming over tonight to try and help me with my vehicle situation as i have 2 vehicles and neither are running now!

Any advice on what to do w the truck?
Thanks all!

Check the fuel pump relay in the PDC...power distribution center (black box) inside on drivers fender when you open the hood. Also check the infamous fusible link/splice in the wire bundle directly under the PDC. Could also be that your pump up and died...RIP.

Default Rip

We fired some starter fluid into the intake. fired over for a moment then died out (cuz it ran out of starter fluid)

So we jumped up and down in the bed to jostle things around a bit and then fired it and she started up! we let her idle for about 5 to 10 minutes no issues. shut off for five minutes and tried it, fired, then quit. no fuel.

Seems like it could certainly be the fuel pump considering it did start after it was messed with. perhaps we should still check the fuel pump relay and wires incase all the jumping moved one of those around?

Thanks friends!

Default frying pan to fire

So things went from bad to worse.

The truck has absolutely zero 0 power now. no crank, no lights, nothing nada zilch. there was a connector that was loose in the engine bay and this happened after it was tightened up. It seems like a main something. i dont know if there is a main fuse or anything like that but if there were a main fuse that blew i would think this would be the reaction. ZERO power.

Tested the battery with a multimeter and it tested good btw.

Halp! lol

Alright,

The power issue was a loose connection. we apparently bumped a wire when we were working under the hood, which is what we reconnected, but it still had a loose connection.

As far as the starting issue, I am thinking it is the Fuel Pump. the wires under the PDC, from what i can see look good. We had it running once without really messing w any wires. I dont hear the pump prime when the key is turned on.

I am going to double check everything one more time before going and buying a fuel pump ($300)

Thanks all!
