You should be able to see the splice without removing the PDC. I did the same thing, replaced my fuel pump, only to find it was the splice.

It'll be a couple days before i have a chance to get back at it. the splice I am looking for, is that in the giant bundle of wires wrapped in some old looking tape? Do i need to cut the tape and go thru each wire? what specifically am i looking for?

Thanks!

Check the FAQ section for the downloadable service manual, then read up on fusible links. Mine was in the bundle...several wires are spliced into one, there's more than one fusible link in there. Mine was corroded, with some burned off insulation, too. Replaced the toasty part of the wire with new and all was good to go in less than 45 mins.
