Sounds a little low. What gears are in your axle?

About 13-15 in town or 14-17 down the road with stock tires...not those 30-inch casings. When was the last time you tuned it up?

Might sound stupid but how are you calculating your mileage?

fill tank up, record added fuel...
reset odometer, drive til fuel light on again...
fill tank up, record fuel added...

divide distance drove by # of gallons used...

i dont know if this is a stupid question but it might not be, i know 5.2 r more powerful but therefore easier to keep tires going... do they get better mileage then v6?

oh by the way when i stick the stock wheels on there i get like 15mpg tops, with the 30in i get less then 10...

i did a standard tuneup around last october...

just to ask, as far as mods, what can improve gas mileage?

My guess is those 30 inch tires are throwing off your speedometer, and therefore your trip meter, so you aren't getting accurate milage to use in your calculation.

Okay, you need to figure the percent size difference between those 30-inch casings and your stock tires...which were giving you about 15 mpg. Google something like tire size calculator...that's what I did and discovered that my 235X75RX15 tires on my 93 Dak LE with 5.2 V-8 are larger than the stock tire size on the drivers door tag. I thought I was only getting 12-13 mpg around town figuring mileage just like you're doing it, but the calculator I found said the larger tires throw the odometer off so it under-reads mileage. Now when I gas up, I add in 4.26% of the mileage on the odometer to the total it shows to get the accurate miles traveled, then divide that by gallons used. I'm really getting a little over 14.3 mpg around town now that I know how to compensate the mileage due to bigger tires...pretty happy with that, since the V8 has more than 185K on it and wasn't taken care of by previous owners. I'm hoping it'll register near 17-18 mpg down the road at a constant speed in OD, but haven't measured it yet.

How many miles are you getting per tank according to your trip meter with your 30 inch tires? What is the exact size of your factory tires (probably 235/75/15?)? What is the the exact size of your current tire?
