Rain Guard Removal
I've read that removing the rain guard covering the air intake on our trucks can have a rather substantial positive effect on the performance. However, and this may sound like a stupid question, but will it's removal leave in enough rain if the truck is driven during the rain to run the risk of hydro-locking the engine? I really like the way my truck runs sans rainguard, but I'm afraid to leave it off permanently for fear of causing damage.
Recovering from hydrolocking sux big time. I wouldn't take the chance. There's more to it that pulling the plugs and turning the engine over to get the water/moisture out. I wouldn't think rain would be the worry, more if someone came along and the intake caught a good bit of a wave thrown up by someone driving their truck like a PT boat. That's what happened to a Buick I used to have, took a wave over the bow/grill from a 4WD battleship captain who was goin too fast.
