Question 94' Dakota v6 not starting

I am not the greatest when it comes to fixing cars. I got into a fender bender a week ago and yesterday it died on me. It did the fluttering like it was out of gas. I filled it up with 5 gallons to get me home. Wouldnt start.

I put some gas in the carb and it started up and ran for 5 seconds then died. So my guess is a fuel pump. But could there be a fuel shut off or something that would cause this problem? i dont wanna do the fuel pump if its not the pump. any help would be good. thanks

Fist of all there is not a carburetor on these engines. It is a throttle body. Next yes it sounds like the fuel pump is dead. Did you run it on empty for a while? Which could burn it out. Or it could be bad wires or cut/smashed wires due to the accident.

I just finished fixing this type of problem.

Like stated above, turn the key and listen for the pump whining. If you dont hear the pump whining it may be the pump.....

OR it could be electrical. Have you checked the relays? Try swapping the ASD and the Fuel Pump relays.

I also tested the pump electrical connector for 12v on the green wire and a ground wire.

Check for that whining noise and try swapping some relays around and see what you can find from there. post back with those results and we'll go from there :-D

Good Luck!
