the trans is a 42re factory v6 trans... in my 96 dakota ext cab 2 wheel drive.... the oil pan in the one on the motor from a 97 ram 2500 5.9 4x4..

This.

If you're asking if a factory v6 transmission won't blow to bits behind a 5.9L v8, it will.

If you're asking if a Ram 4x4 oil pan will work on a 2wd Dakota, I don't know. Just compare the shapes, or just go to a junkyard and grab a v8 2wd pan.

My trans guy swears he can make my 42re handle the hp of the 5.9....ill try it and see.... The oil pan advice tho, ill compare like you suggested..thanks!

Ok... yeah, you can make a 42re handle the 5.9, but it won't in it's factory form... especially a used one!

Thanks for your reply....my question was should i remove the weight on the torque convertor cause the 3.9 is externally balanced and the 5.9 is internally balanced...
