Transfer Case Drain/Fill Plug and Oxygen Sensor Size

Hi,

I am going to change out the transfer case fluid and the oxygen sensor out on my 95 Dakota 3.9L V6.

None of the sockets I have are large enough for the drain/fill plugs on the transfer case...what size are they?

Also, the oxygen sensor on my truck seems seized up. I am having a tough time loosening it. I put some PB on it and now just waiting. What size tool do I need for the sensor? My crescent wrench is a big piece of junk that I can't seem to maneuver around.

Any help is appreciated. :icon_razz:

For the O2 it is 7/8in. I just changed mine today. They sell special sockets that have an opening for the wire to fit if you need. Most auto parts stores sell them. I got mine off with a simple open end wrench.

For the Transfercase I'm not sure. But a guess 15/16in. If I am thinking of the correct plug. Or is it the 3/4?

I tried the biggest socket I have, which is a 15/16"...it was too small. It looks the same size as the manual trans case plugs.

Your best bet is get a measuring tape and see what size it is.

If I didn't have a skid plate in the way I would go measure it with my calipers. Maybe 1in or 1 1/16in

Haha! Thanks for your help Crazy. I'll go measure it first thing tomorrow :)

Yeah, I have an adjustable wrench. The problem is that there are areas on that size of the transfer case that makes it useless...as in you can't get it in there.

Luckily, I borrowed some tools from the guys at the mine.

the tc plug is 1 1/8", both drain and fill

Best way to get to the TC plugs is to put a tranny jack under the TC and raise it up about 2 inches.

Thanks! It was a 1 1/8"

Now I am just having a problem getting the damn O2 sensor out...it's seized up!

I have been putting a lot of PB Blaster on it...no help. It's also very hard to get leverage on it since it's right after the y-pipe levels off a foot or before the cat. I might end up taking it to a muffler shop and have them loosen it for me.
