Default Rust Problem...

Hi,

I have some rust directly above my rear window. It seems as if the previous owner had applied some type of adhesive that ended up causing the rust. Luckily, it has not reached the outline of the rear window. The rust has some light bubbling throughout...

How would you guys suggest I repair this? Any one have some tips? I really don't want it to get any worse than it is.

Thanks.

Apply naval jelly, sand it with a random orbit sander. Repeat until finished. Repaint right away.

Did my entire roof this way. Helps if you leave the naval jelly on a good day in the sun.

Some states may have banned naval jelly (silly cancer scare), but I found mine in limited stock in Ace Hardware and Home Depot.

It's a jelly-like substance that chemically breaks up the rust. Believe me, you'll spend all day sanding if you don't use it.

I would POR-15 it if it were my truck, then touch up paint over it, wet sand, then clear coat. Unless you have a paint gun, then you could paint it with automotive paint. Depends on how much time and work you want to put into it. But the POR-15 should stop the rust.
