Default The Exhaust Thread

This isn't the usual what sounds or performs better thing. I'm an exhaust enthusiast so I wanna know who has what and why. But I want it to be good and detailed with an explanation of your setup with pics and sound/video lol. Now I'm gonna be a little hypocritical cause I cant do pics and sound/video right now but... my setup is stock headers, no cat, 2.50 inch pipe to a SI/DO IMCO muffler with 2.25 inch pipe to rolled tips angled out the bumper corners. I chose this cause it was a "deal" the guy at the local shop gave me. I like it cause it sounds nice at idle and up into the 2000 rpm range but its too quiet at cruising speed and looks and sounds kinda like a Flowmaster and thats just too common and not always the best sounding IMO, so I'm looking for a new setup and thats some of the reason for this thread. So lets see!

Before the turbo I ran a 3" cat with an Aero Turbine 3030 muffler with a side exit before the tire. It sounded awesome, loud at WOT and didn't drone when cruising, I have several videos I can link here when I get off work. IMO it's the perfect muffler.

I got shorty headers on my truck. I got the stock 3in pipes. Gutted cat. Flowmaster 40 muffler. The muffler was my first modification done to the truck. Got it done back in high school, a good 9yrs ago.

My exhaust will need to be completely redone at the end of the SAS to clear the 3 link, but what I had was shorty headers, no cat, factory 2.5 inch pipe, flowmaster 40 and it exited to the side in front of the right rear wheel. The new exhaust is likely going to be a custom 2.5 inch into 3 inch Y-pipe and 3 inch pipe the rest of the way back with no cat and I haven't picked a new muffler yet. I'm likely going to cut a hole in the side of the bed and route the exhaust out the side, up out of the way so I never have a ground clearance issue with it.

I plan to run the same setup as Hahn has in those videos, plus headers eventually. The AT3030 sounds amazing.

That beach driving looks like a lot fun, which I had something like that around here.

Damn Hahn, that does sound good! Is there any performance gain? Not really worried if there is or not, just wondering.

Yes, IMO there was even a slight gain over the 40 series I had before. It will certainly flow circles around the 40 series. It's straight through, 100% stainless, lifetime warranty and no packing material to burn out.

Was the cat on your setup personal preference? Cause I don't have one but I got a 2 chamber muffler on now but I'd want one with the at3030 cause I don't really want a totally straight through setup..unless I end up thinking it sounds and performs better in the end lol.

I have to pass emissions and it's PLENTY loud with a cat and I'm no tree hugger but I don't see the need to polute extra or have a stinky *** truck.
