Default 1992 with 45000 miles

I am new with the dodge dakota. I have noticed when I am driving it goes in overdrive and back down to the lower gear allot. Just normal driving. It seams to me something is not right. I just had the recall on the valve in the trans done at the dealer. So they changed the filter and fluid. This truck only has 45000 miles. It has the V-6 magnum. And the truck is loud, I took it to a muffler shop and he said that was normal. Can some one help me out don't know allot about dodge thanks.

Seems to me this is normal with that truck.

Mine does it all the time. If I find it doing too much I just turn the overdrive off. Does it on hills a bit.

Going in and out of OD is not normal. If needed yes it will downshift on taller hills or if you press harder on the gas. This post may help. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...agnostics.html

The dealer worked on it, take it back there and demand they fix it...if it wasn't doing it before, that is. If so, take it back to the dealer or a competent mech.

I agree that if it is just going in and out of OD with no change in throttle input, that isn't normal.

Perhaps the OP can clarify.

Is it going in and out of OD when you give it gas and subsequently let off, or is it going in and out with the throttle in a constant position?

Mine goes in and out a bit, but that is with a change in throttle position as necessary for the road I'm driving.

That darn V6 doesn't have all that much power on tap if you ask me.

Default Overdrive

A couple of years ago my dakota would not go into overdrive in cold weather but would when it was warm. I had a computer code that pointed to the speed sensor that resides in the transmission. After I replaced the speed sensor it would shift into and out of overdrive at the correct times. Maybe this will help.
