ok i have a 1991 dodge dakota 318v8 4x4
and i am talking to someone about a trade for other stuff.
ok heres the questain.
Can i put a 76 fj40 front axle in the front of my dakota.
yea i know i will need a matching rear axle thats not my problem.
and i can get one. but my main questain is can i put leaf springs on the front of a dakota and how much work is it.
i have seen poeple do 4 link, and 3 link but can i do leaf springs in the front of a dakota. please let me know i can do it but is the frame there to do it.
please help..............................

Yes, you can put leaf springs on the front of a dakota. I've seen it done... there is even a write up on here where a member did it.
As for the fj40 axle... my guess is it will be too narrow, but get the measurements and find out. No matter what axle you get, you'll have to cut the factory spring perches off and weld your own on making sure you have the correct pinion angle and castor angle.
I put a '78 F250 HD Dana 44 under my truck with a 3 link/coil spring setup. Its wide, but I'd much rather have it too wide to keep the truck more stable on off-camber trails.

Your rear axle should have a 6x4.5 lug pattern, so no, there is no solid front axle that will match it. I put 3/4 ton axles under my truck front and back with the 8x6.5 lug pattern.
And good point Hahns5.2... you will need a driver's side drop axle. No chevy axle will work. A few dodge axles will work, but the late '70s Ford axles are your best bet.
