1996 dakota dies/hard to start
I bought a 1996 dakota v6 auto 2 wheel drive with 38,000 from the gov't
it ran for a few days then started having problems. Currently it will start cold run at different idle speeds and then die after a few min's then it's hard to restart wanting to backfire though the air cleaner, I have good fuel pressure .... I have replaced the wires, plugs, coil, crankshaft sensor, throttle pos sen TPS, idle air control valve, and wondering if the computer is bad or is there a sensor I'm missing...anybody got anything I can try...I need help ...
Thanks
Glenn

Tons of possibilities. It may be the notorious splice check the FAQ in this section for its locations. Find out what has power and what doesn't when it doesn't start. Also read the 100 other No starts that are posted everyday.
a map sens can do that to. when it dies and won't resart unplug it and see if it fires back up. also we one in the shop the other day that was loading up and overheating and smoking. it ended up being the o2's and pcm. ocasionally the o2's would fail and short out the pcm. somewhat rare though.
